Learning
Support
To enable all students coming
to Cardinal Newman College to achieve their
learning
and qualification
aims, the College has developed a Learning Support
team. We are experienced in supporting Learning
Difficulties and Disabilities and continuing
the support students have received in their previous
schooling. In addition, we can support students
with the management of health needs and if they
experience a crisis or their personal circumstances
change. We liaise with the Examinations Office
regarding individual arrangements for examination
concessions. This can include assessment for
additional time; provision of readers and scribes;
separate rooms and use of word processors.
The
support offered includes:
• Initial assessment of Maths and English skills;
• On-course support with coursework, assignments,
revision and exams on an individual basis;
• 1:1 and/or small group sessions in study skills for note-taking, assignments
and report writing,
development of memory skills, giving presentations, revision
and examination techniques;
• Development of learning materials to meet the needs of individuals;
• Arrangements for examination concessions;
• Referral for specialist assessment or to specialist support agencies;
• Access to information technology and specialist learning equipment and
software;
• Management of existing learning support needs.
We would strongly advise
students to inform the College of any existing
needs. Any information received will be used
positively and will in no way be prejudicial
to their application.
Study
Support
In addition to support from class teachers
and subject support tutors, we also offer additional
support for those students who need it. Whatever
your individual needs, we can provide additional
study support, often on a one-to-one basis.
If
you have a specific learning difficulty or
a disability, you will be able to talk to
us about any special arrangements you may
require.
The College has a number
of specialist Learning Centres, open throughout
the day with
staff
available to help you.
