Jo Walker Nets National Title!
Joanne Walker (Our Lady’s),has just been awarded the runners up prize at a national sports ceremony hosted by the Daily Telegrpah.
Jo was Cardinal Newman’s 2008 netball captain and came second in the ‘Female Student of the Year’ award category at the Telegraph’s ‘School Matters Awards 2008’ at Twickenham national stadium.
Oxbridge Record
Each year the round of HE applications starts early for those Year 13 students who wish to study at either Oxford or Cambridge and for those who wish to take medicine, veterinary science or dentistry.
The closing date for these applications was the end of September and we were delighted that a record number of students (well over 70) have decided to apply to these universities and for these courses.

Cardinal Newman College students are celebrating after another year of record breaking results.
After being crowned the best college in Lancashire for the second consecutive year running in January, the College received a further accolade in February when we were informed that our students’ results placed them 10th out of 1,000 schools and colleges nationally for value added.

Banana Farming – Newman Welcomes Guest Speaker

After celebrating the fantastic exam results, Principal Stephen Pegg rushed down to London to receive a fabulous accolade from Number 10, Downing Street.
He was one of very few schools and college leaders invited to meet Gordon Brown and the Secretary of State for Education, at a lavish evening reception to celebrate “outstanding leadership in schools and colleges”.

Launch
of a major A-Level Exhibition
Cardinal Newman College is launching its largest exhibition to date. A collaboration of student’s own work will be showcased throughout the college next week. Building on last years success, the Exhibition 2007 will display a broad spectrum of work from the following courses; Fine Art, Art and Design, Applied Art and Design, Digital Photography, Graphics, Textiles, Film Studies, Media Studies and Music.

After securing the North West Title, dominant performances throughout the season have led the first team squad to three National Finals and impressively, they remained unbeaten all season, winning all 35 of their competitive games.
The first team played with remarkable consistency and unparalleled achievement this season taking the National Title, The North West title, The British Colleges’ title and the British Colleges’ cup.

figures released in January confirmed that "Newman
is the best College in Lancashire" and there
was further evidence of our student success
when the results of the latest AS/A Level modules
were published last month.

For the past few years, first year student Katie McKay has spent her holidays in a very different place to most of her classmates. Katie (Leyland St Mary’s) spends most of her holiday time volunteering at Adullam House in Alabama, an organisation which cares for children of incarcerated mothers.
Newman Netball Team Secure the National Championship!
Newman’s
netball Academy are the best in the Nation. The
team, who were crowned
North West Champions earlier in the year, prevailed
in the National Finals, held in Bournemouth over
the weekend (March 16th-17th).
Newman Net Northern Title
It’s official, Newman’s Netball Academy have been crowned best
in the region! Despite freezing conditions, they sailed past six top
teams from the North West to progress to the National Finals.

Academy Tour 2007
Cardinal Newman’s
successful Basketball Academy are getting set
to embark
upon an eagerly awaited U.S.A tour. The 11
academy players and two members of staff will
watch and experience World Class Basketball
next month, when they take a trip to Boston.
Students have also arranged to visit ex-Newman
academy ace and England International star,
Ben Eaves who has now progressed to play for
the Huskies at the University of Connecticut.
